Canned Albacore Tuna (Thunnus Alalunga)

Albacore tuna is found in all tropical and temperate oceans, including the North Pacific Ocean.

Canned Albacore is also known as “white” tuna. It is one of the popular types of canned tuna and is one of the most abundant of the tuna species. It is found in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, the Pacific Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea.

The albacore tuna reaches sizes of up to 5 feet and can weigh as much as 100 pounds. Its color is dark blue along its top and has a silvery white underbelly.

Currently, the albacore tuna stock is not in imminent danger, but albacore tuna should be sourced from fisheries that practice sustainable fishing methods. When purchasing canned tuna look for the MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) which ensures that the albacore was caught sustainably.
