Tuna Poke Recipe

sesame-seedsThe word ‘Poke’ originated in Hawaii and is used to describe a small raw tuna appetizer salad. This Poke recipe is simple to make and serves 2:

200 g Ahi Tuna – Sashimi grade
2 Tbl Tamari Soy sauce
1 Tbl Sesame oil
1 tsp Sambal sauce (may adjust for spiciness)
1/2 small Maui sweet onion (or purple onion) – chopped coarse
2 sprigs green onion chopped fine (green portion only)
1 tsp roasted sesame seeds

In small bowl combine Soy Sauce, Sesame oil, onions and Sambal sauce as marinade. Prepare Ahi in 1/2″ cubes, remove any skin or white connective tissue, place in separate bowl.  Add marinade in small quantities until desired seasoning is attained (about 3/4 of prepared marinade above).  Combine thoroughly.

Marinate in refrigerator covered for 3-6 hours.  15 minutes prior to serving,  plate and sprinkle with sesame seeds
